Introducing Acorn Green


At Acorn, our focus has always been on creating quality, bespoke homes that meet the needs of local communities. With that in mind, we are delighted to announce the launch of Acorn Green, which cements our commitment to sustainability, the environment, and intelligent design.

Acorn Green will concentrate on minimising the carbon footprint of the homes we build, with the ultimate aim of becoming a net-zero carbon emitter. Our new Acorn Green hub will document our journey and showcase our greenest suppliers who share our values.
Our Design Director, Julian Hampson will champion the initiative as ambassador and will be ably supported by: Luke Burwood, Group Procurement and Sustainability Manager, and Lizzie Olds, Regional Sales Manager.

The launch of Acorn Green embodies our ongoing commitment to creating sustainable communities that fulfil residents’ needs whilst respecting and protecting the environment.

It represents our holistic approach that enables us to successfully deliver our vision – which is to ensure that everything we do has a positive impact and contributes meaningfully towards local surroundings. Ultimately, we want to create neighbourhoods with a true sense of place, where residents and nature can grow and flourish together, long after building finishes.


Delivering bespoke solutions through smart design

Where other housebuilders are able to take a one size fits all approach to sustainability, our emphasis is on bespoke, intelligent design. This means looking at each site individually, identifying its merits and harnessing them to create something truly unique.

Another aspect that sets us apart, is our commitment to reuse existing buildings. In fact, raising them to contemporary standards, is a challenge we thoroughly embrace. Our belief in utilising what already exists, is a philosophy that’s justified by various studies. Research suggests that it can take anything from 10 to 80 years for a new building to overcome the negative climate impact its construction causes; even when those new buildings are 30% more energy efficient. As former president of the American Institute of Architects, Carl Elefante says: “the greenest building is the one that already exists”.

Acorn Green consolidates our approach to housebuilding over the years and symbolises our continued belief in building resilient homes and communities that are fit for the future.

By launching Acorn Green, we hope to shine a light on what we do and illustrate the ways in which we’re actively pursuing an agenda that focuses on the environment and long-term sustainability. By doing this, we want to encourage awareness of what green living really means from an Acorn perspective.

Acorn Green also goes beyond our design principles, and we want sustainability and environmental awareness to be an inherent part of our people culture too. From recycling and renewable energy to our newly introduced cycle-to-work scheme, we’ll continue to look for new ideas that put what’s right for the planet at the heart of everything we do.
